UKMA: Can you explain briefly how you got into angling?

Eddie Turner (ET):About 14 or 15 years old, used to fish over local park lake for Prussian Carp. First fish was a suicidal perch, as most anglers catch. Later carp fishing and pike fishing. Been Pike fishing for the last 40 years and been doing so ever since.

UKMA: How did you start in the angling trade?

ET: Way back in 1984 we decided to bring into the market some innovative products. ET Products was the first company to introduce: Unhooking mat / Drifter floats / curved weigh bag / backbiter / twiddling stix / pike tube / sunken floats…..

UKMA: What made you decide to start your own business within the angling industry?

ET: The stuff we were using was not available to buy so we decided to make it ourselves. At the time I was starting to get noticed as I had caught 5 fish over 30lb in 1984. Vic Gibson worked for Dons of Edmonton and built bespoke fishing rods for a living and we were both into our pike fishing in a big way and were constantly improving innovative Pike fishing tackle products.

UKMA: How long has the company been running?

ET: First time round about 8 years before it was sold to Relum. Decided to re-launch it a few years ago as an online store

UKMA: How do you see the future with regards to company expansion over the forthcoming years?

ET: Really want to keep it as an online business (unless a bigger company would like to buy us out ) and do not want to make the same mistakes again as we got too big the last time. We have a wide range of products and specialise in a specific area where we have expertise, unlike a lot of companies who invent stuff for the hell of it. We know our products work because we use them. We are unusual because we have some products that are exlusive to us and us only. They have been designed by pike anglers because they work. Every year we seem to come up with new and exclusive products.
