New for 2011

For many anglers, the arrival of winter and the associated bitterly cold weather signals the end of the season but there are a number of die-hard anglers who find winter to be the best time of the year to pursue there chosen quarries. For the hardcore members of the carp, specialist and predator angling fraternities, the need for a reliable and versatile clothing system that can handle the worst of element extremes is essential. One brand name that has been around for some time and widely recognised as possibly one of the best severe weather clothing ranges available to the session angler is the Zero Tolerance range from Nash Tackle.

To take the Zero Tolerance clothing name into the next decade, the Nash design team have totally re-vamped the range for 2011/2012 and released several new garments that are both fashionable and functional. UKMA spoke to the Nash Tackle marketing manager Nick Maddix who told us “The new Zero Tolerance range of clothing brings a new level of technology and quality to carp clothing. In fact Nash believes carp anglers have never had the opportunity to wear and be protected by such high spec garments until now”. A very big claim indeed, so we have taken them out on the bank and had a proper look at these hi spec severe weather garments.

Key Features

The new Zero Tolerance ZT Sub 20 Jacket has to be one of the most expensive extreme weather jackets currently available but it is leaps and bounds better than anything else I have tested over the past three years. This well thought out Jacket incorporates four external fully zipped pockets, with two of them having a full fleece-lining for warm and comfort. To protect your keys, wallet and mobile phone there is a internal fully zipped pocket on the left panel, just inside the main zip. Both arms can be zipped off to transform the Jacket into a Body warmer. Both sleeves have elasticated cuffs with Velcro straps that make the cuffs fully adjustable.

To eliminate encroachment of the wind and cold, Nash use a top quality, easy to use, heavy duty main zip, which has a storm flap that is secured in place with Velcro fastenings to totally eliminate drafts. At the bottom of the ZT Sub 20 Jackets you have an elasticated waist band that is fully adjustable. You also have a fully fleeced lined hood that incorporates a stiffened peak to give the hood a ridged shape and help keep rain out of your face. The hood also has a full neck cuff that sits nicely on the chin and because it can be securely fastened and adjusted this is another sure way of stopping any drafts and cold winds from entering the ZT Sub 20 Jacket.

TOP FEATURE -  The Zero Tolerance Sub 20 jacket has what we used to call a Duck Tail or rounded back which is cut lower than the front to ensure no drafts can get under the back when you sit down, very simple but a major bonus in the cold.

The key feature of the ZT Sub 20 Jacket is without question its ability to eliminate heat loss and this is a job it does superbly. This has been made possible by moving on from the Duck down of days of old and introducing a innovative new super insulate that has be proven to works exceptionally well. The last and most important features that the ZT Sub 20 Jacket is its ability to keep you 100% dry in the worst of rain or storms. This has been made possible with the inclusion of the all new Tasford Oxford Nylon outer material that ensures no wind or rain will pass through to interrupt you total comfort in this exceptionally warm jacket.

These latest in hi-tech thermal trousers are based on the original Zero Tolerance duck-down trousers. The first noticeable difference is that the new versions have additional braces to maximise comfort. There are numerous practical features to be found on the ZT Sub 20 Trousers including four side pockets. all pockets feature a full zip, with the outer two situated close the seam of the leg to allow ease of access to the pockets on your base or inner layer, the other two pockets are fleeced lined for warm and comfort. On both legs you have a cargo style pockets, both have a Velcro fastened flap that protects the fully zipped deep pockets from taking on water.

The ZT Sub 20 Trousers have had a serious make over in all departments; the Nash design team have made substantial changes to the fastenings and comfort of these all singing and all dancing extreme weather garments. You know have a fully adjustable elasticated waistband, with additional belt loops fitted if you prefer to use a belt, rather than the removable braces. A heavy-duty fly zip with a embossed Nash logo on the leather puller is in place and there are three pop stud above the zip to secure the waist band and take away the need to fasten and unfasten buttons, that as we all know are hard work when your fingers are numb from the cold.

Two of my personal favourite features on the ZT Sub 20 Trousers would have to be the reinforced and cushioned butt area or seat, which is designed to greatly improve your comfort when sitting on a chair out in the cold.  The second feature and most important feature in my books is the extra padding on the knees. We all spend time setting alarms, hanging indicators and when we do this we virtually always end up kneeling on hard or rough ground which does our knees no favours at all. The last feature on the Sub20’s is the elasticated and adjustable ankles with anti-draught baffle on each leg that ensures a sight fit over your chosen footwear.

Final Thoughts

If you like your clothing to be hi-spec, fashionable, functional and have more features than St Pauls Cathedral then look no further. The new Zero Tolerance ZT Sub 20 Jacket and Trousers have got it all. Every design detail serves a purpose and makes your time wearing these garments an enjoyable experience, even in extremely cold weather. It’s the little things that impressed me the most, the logo embossed Leather pull tabs on all the zips, the extra padding on the rear and knees all add up to one thing and that is total quality.

These small but needed attention to detail, gives the ZT Sub 20 in my books the edge over all major competitors producing cold weather garments in this price category.

My one and only problem with the Zero Tolerance Sub 20 Jacket and Sub 20 Trousers is that the sizes are not exact. UKMA found the XXL sized garments are suitable for any angler with a chest that measures 40 inches or less and a waist below 34, which is a large in all other ranges of angling apparel.

For this reason and this reason only; UKMA Highly Recommend that you try for sizes when buying products from the New Zero Tolerance range to ensure a good fit.
