SNOWBEE Deep Blue Spinning Rod 9ft
Casting Weight 20 – 50g RRP £129

Travelling rods have never been something I have taken too seriously over the years, with many a products performance being depreciated by the extra whipping and numerous overlapping joints required, often making the rod feel unbalanced if not cumbersome in too many cases. So when Snowbee’s Simon Kidd approached UKMA to review the Deep Blue Spinning Rod 9ft, it was definitely going to take something quite special to entertain our requirements
Vital Statistics
The Deep Blue 9ft is supplied to the angler in a quality club bag and hard case tube.
Upon removing the rod we found the 4 sections to be of equal length and a Deep Blue in colour (aah I see) Starting with the butt section, you get a tidy up locking screw-winch-style reel seat housed between a solid two piece cork handle, that is finished off with a bulbous rubber butt. The first of the remaining three sections is home to a double-legged butt ring, whilst the remaining two sections carry six single-leg intermediate rings and tip ring. The rod is finished off with precise overlapping joints and to compliment the quality blank, matching Deep Blue whipping is standard on all rings.
Performance
The Deep Blue Spinning 9ft has a nice crisp responsive through action which gives the user the ability to achieve extremely accurate casting even at distances in excess of 40yds. There is no problem using the Deep Blue Spinning Rod all day long, weighing in at only 210grams, (7.5oz in old money), the ability of this superb blank make continuous casting even at longer distances an absolute joy rather than an arm wrenching chore. To get the very best out of the Deep Blue we recommend that you use a braided reel Line of 40lb BS, not only will braid assist in the casting distances possible with your chosen lure but braid will also enhance the feed back from the Lure, transmitting every knock, bang and wobble the lure makes upon it’s retrieval.
Final Comments
As I have previously stated, I had my doubts about travel rods from previous bad experiences with other sub-standard products, however I would like to congratulate Snowbee for making me eat a large slice of humble pie. Although it may be a 4 piece travel rod, it performs is as good as, if not better than any 2 piece lure rod I have used that sells within the same price bracket as the Snowbee Deep Blue 9ft Spinning Rod. Not only the ideal tool for jigging Shads, Grubs and any other soft bait you can name for Zander, it will also make a great rod for Perch, Chub, and Pike and for the coast when targeting Bass and Pollock.
Undoubtedly one of the best travel rods I have personally used and one piece of tackle you are guaranteed will be in the boot of my car at all times. Mark Brand
