With an ever growing reputation for quality rods, it was only a matter of time before this upwardly mobile company would take their rightful place in the very competitive world of Lure rod manufacturing. After a cup of coffee and an informative chat about future plans at this year Tackle & Gun Show, SONIK SPORTS marketing guru, Ian McCormack handed me the SK4 SPIN 9ft to put through its paces. So we handed it over to the UKMA Lure Guru, Mark Brand, here’s what we found.

Vital Statistics

The SK4 is built on a naturally coloured blank, above the reel seat is an Olive Green area which is where you will find the rods subtle but informative graphics. The rods' sections join together by the slick coupling of the superbly manufactured push-over joints. The reel seat is a down-locking screw-winch style system, with the top of the handle being the winch to secure the reel. To finish the rod of you have nine single legged eyes and the tip ring which are finished of with stylish black whippings.

Performance

A superb casting tool, what more can I say, short or long range casting was a doddle with this well balanced peach of a rod (we found a 3000 size fixed spool reel balanced the rod perfectly) The Foam covered reel seat is slightly different from the norm but performs amicably. Another noticeable feature is the responsiveness of the blank to every movement of your lure, the feeling transmitted through the rod to your hand was something Ann Summers would struggle to rival.

Final Comments

The SK4 Spin is finished to an exceptional standard considering the price bracket it lives in, which is a trade mark of all Sonik Sports rods and accessories. This superb two piece rod carries out it’s duties with no fuss at all and really earns its keep. Now if I was to pick fault it would be down to the fact that there is no keeper ring. Yes I’m being picky but if Sonik add this little extra, they would have a rod that is the complete package for the price.
