UKMA: Can you explain briefly how you got into angling?

Philip Cartner (PC): My Uncle died and left me his fishing tackle, so I found the nearest fishery, started fishing the children’s pool to learn from the ground up, I was 36 I had just come back from 11 years in London from high stress job, I was seeking peace. Fishing provided it.

UKMA: How did you start in the angling trade?

PC: I was sitting underneath a tree carping with a friend, looking through a magazine for something to wear for carping, I didn’t like anything, I decided to design my own, by the end of that week I had my first designs.

UKMA: What made you decide to start your own business within the angling industry?

PC: The first reason,  I had worked in a sector that was well paid and for a time enjoyable, then not so, I followed a new philosophy you’re working a long time in this life, do something that you enjoy, I like design, clothes and carping, voila!!! I also feel and still feel we can bring a lot to our sector, and lastly I find a lot of my job enjoyable, to talk to like-minded people by a stretch of water isn’t a bad way to earn a living.

UKMA: How long has the company been running?

PC: This is our 3rd year, but we now design and manufacturer our own clothes.

UKMA: How do you see the future with regards to company expansion over the forthcoming years?

PC:We are optimistic and under no illusion of the hard work we have ahead. We have created a range of clothing that is excellent quality made from the best materials available to us, giving the customer an item of clothing that is not only fit for purpose and great design but a brand that’s reliable quality, for everybody, the retailers as well as customers that we are proud to say is manufactured at home in the UK, we will also be looking to bring out various innovations once we have the essential clothing items out. That will be really exciting to develop and improve the nature of carping.
