Sailing Lake

Still plenty of Pike to 20lb showing in most areas of the lake although the narrow channels by the sailing club point are still full of fish. Venue regular Paul Harris of Leicester floatfished a small Roach deadbait close to a sunken tree branch and landed 3 fish of 14lb, 15lb 2oz and a new personal best 20lb specimen. Fishery manager Chay Jackson also got amongst some decent Pike when he landed fish of 13lb and 17lb 4oz on wobbled Roach deadbaits. On the Zander front another venue regular Henry Lawson of Melton landed 3 nice Zeds of 8lb 9oz, 11lb and 13lb 1oz all to legered Roach deadbaits, Henry fished at around 60 yards range towards the sailing buoy. Visiting angler Mark Newington of Morecambe also got amongst the Zeds with a 7lb, 8lb and 11lb 6oz fish all being taken from the point swim close to the island, again legered small dead Roach were the winning tactics.

Boys Pit

The boys Pit has been in excellent form with plenty of Pike between 6lb and 15lb being taken on a variety of tactics. The growing discipline of Pike fly fishing has been taking its fair share of Pike over this winter but regular rod and keen fly angler Adrian Carlow of Oakham showed the disciplines reel potential when he landed an incredible 11 Pike to 15lb; Adrian used a homemade Roach pattern fly to land all of his fish.
Lewis Grant of Leicester also got amongst the Pike with 4 fish, the biggest going 14lb 2oz, Lewis wandered the lake with a lure rod to take his fish.

Leicester Royal Infirmary Children’s Ward 14 Charity Predator Match

Last Saturday saw us host a charity Predator match in aid of the Children’s ward at Leicester Royal Infirmary. The match saw 26 anglers from various parts of the UK compete for a first prize of a weeks guided fishing on the River Ebro amongst many other fantastic prizes donated from various tackle companies. Event organiser Pete Hill of Leicester said “My own son was diagnosed with meningitis recently and the doctors and nurses on ward 14 were absolutely fantastic. Whilst we were there it was obvious how short they were on sensory and baby toys, so this event is aimed at being able to raise enough money to kit them out really, it’s our way of saying a big thank you for everything they have done for our son” In the end the event raised a fantastic £731 and Pete would like to place on record his thanks to all involved in helping to make the event possible.
