Nova reels make a difference in the market because of the high demands we set to the manufacturing. Ray's Verdict  

Dutch based manufacturer Spro have over the past couple of years established a reputation for high quality Reels that are robust enough to handle the demands of Commercial match Fishing in the U.k. With the RedArc FD1040 already building a large cult following on the commercial Match circuit, I had to find out just how good these Reels actually where. So when I was approached by Nigel Parks of Angling Concepts to review the Spro Nova 740 Match this was the opportunity I had been waiting for. 

On opening the box, the most noticeable thing about the Nova 740 is the metallic red finish which for the total tackle tarts out there is both eye catching and very original [as a Man UTD supporting I found it most patriotic] but don't let this put you off as it is also available in Black Silver and Gold.

You get as standard 2 Aluminium Long Cast Spools that are superbly machined, have a standard Push button loading system which makes spool changing a quick and simple task. All spools have  well printed clear graphics that give you full details on line capacities and diameters.Plus you have a line diameter indicator within the spool and a insulated line clip which protects your line from damage when casting big weight  to the clip.

Something I found very original was the Rubber Finger-cushions on the Reel Seat, I found this made the Reel much more comfortable to hold especially when you had a rampant double under your rod tip and on it's way to the net .

This feature is also designed to give greater comfort in winter when mother nature decided to do her worst and your Reels feel like ice in your hands. [a very nice touch]

I loaded the Reel with 5lb line to asses the quality of line lay, Perfect! as good as I have seen on any £80.00 reel. If I had to compare the Nova RD 740 to another top reel in it's category and price bracket it would either be a Diawa Whisker 2508 for its pure power and anti line twist feature and  a Shimano Stradic 3000'S GTM-RB for its smooth performance and linelay. The Nova RD 740  Power, line lay and overall performance would comfortably hold it's own with either of these well respected Reels.

This Compact, Powerful  Reel has got the lot, superb line lay created by the S-curve oscillation system, to the very responsive, finely adustable "Top Nudge" multi-disc rear drag system which is simply a joy to use, I've used the Nova RD 740 to land carp up to double figures on both the Feeder and Big Waggler and it performed superbly. I see this Reel as the perfect all year round work horse that will do any job you ask of it with a pedigree that outshines it's price tag.
