Pallatrax Natural Liquids

User Report by Clint Walker

I’ve been using dips, glugs and liquids to enhance my baits for as long as I can remember, but like every other angler in the country, I’m always looking for a new way to use them which will give me the edge over the rod next door.....I think I’ve found one!

Pallatrax (www.pallatrax.co.uk) have a range of liquids which are of interest; the product line includes Earthworm, Krill, Bloodworm and Shrimp, all of which will enhance any hook bait, stick or groundbait mix. Each one is completely natural and contains 250ml of stinky fluid crammed with extracts of the creature (surprisingly!) portrayed on the bottle.
At this time of year, water temperatures are falling, snow and ice melt and long periods of rain all contribute to slow things down, so I usually ‘fine down’ all my tackle and that includes my baits which become smaller and used in smaller amounts. One of my favourite baits has to be maggots, so I like to prepare them properly to give me the best chance of success and here is how I use Pallatrax liquids to ‘pep up’ my offerings.
I always keep maggots (and everything else!) which have been left over at the end of my previous session and I’m lucky enough to have a large freezer in which to store them. Freezing maggots obviously kills them, but it does have the added advantage of providing me with a supply of feed baits which will not crawl away or become buried in silt and the fish will still see them as a quality food source. When water temperatures are low and the fish are in torpor, then they will not expend energy grubbing about to look for maggots or similar, so if dead maggots are laying in plain view, then they will be taken!

To prepare my wrigglers, I take them out of the freezer and riddle thoroughly to remove any skins, husks and other detritus to give me good clean maggots; once I’ve done that, I split into ½ pint batches and place in a small polythene bag. A good shake ensures that there are none stuck together and then I add just a few drops of ‘Naturals’ liquid; it is so potent that a couple of drops is plenty. Once added, blow up the bag and twist to seal, then give another good shake to coat each grub, and then evacuate the air, fold the bag over and leave the maggots to defrost. As they thaw, the liquid is drawn into the skin of the maggot imparting a yummy (if you are a fish!) flavour; easy! The baits can then be used as loose feed around the hook bait, or, if dusted with groundbait to absorb any excess liquid, can also used in pva and cast or catapulted into the swim at longer ranges.

But do they work? Well, I’ve used this method twice recently when targeting perch and had remarkable success both times. I travelled to Cudmore fishery in Staffordshire and used a feeder to fish alongside a near margin reed bed; during a short session, I managed perch to 2lbs 15ozs and bonus carp to around 10lbs. I also visited Wrinehill on the Lymm AC card and took more than 100 perch over a bed of spodded dead maggots with similar on the hook! I’m aware that my catches could be considered ‘one of those days’, but on both occasions, other anglers on the same waters had exactly NOTHING!!

It works for me and I’m sure it will for you, so why not give it a try??
