‘Lucky’ Thirteen for Paul Garner

Specimen ace Paul Garner has taken a great catch of fish this weekend topped by this 13lb 9oz barbel.

Paul targeted a stretch of his local Warwickshire Avon for an overnight session and with conditions in his favour, he even predicted a good catch was on the cards on his Facebook page.

He arrived at the swim early in the evening and was catching small chub within half an hour. As the light began to fade, the fishing improved and the barbel fed. By 2.30am, when Paul reeled his rods in to get some sleep, he had landed 12 barbel between 4lb and 7lb – his largest single session catch from the Avon.

After a couple of hours rest he woke to a rising sun and cast out the rods again. The fishing was not as frantic this time but a chub of 5lb 4oz made the early start worthwhile before his final bite of the day resulted in the monster 13lb 9oz barbel.

Paul tempted the majority of his fish using two drilled 10mm Dynamite Marine Halibut pellets presented on a hair rig. This was fished over 2 pints of 6mm Dynamite Marine Halibut pellets and half a gallon of Dynamite Baits Frenzied Hempseed that had been catapulted into the swim. A six inch PVA stick of mixed pellets was liberally coated in Source Liquid and another secret attractor that Paul uses before being attached to the hook and cast into the swim.
