Pallatrax Catch Reports

January 2012

Pallatrax rod Ryan Lippitt got amongst the big barbel again on his recent visit to the Warwickshire Avon; Ryan used a simple rig comprising a Pallatrax Stonze weight to hold down his 3” Steamlink hook link and size 8 hook. Ryan told us; “I arrived at my chosen swim at around 4.30pm, and used a bait dropper to lay a bed of hemp over which I fished a Pallatrax tinned natural bait. As soon as it began to go dark, I had a chub of 5lbs, but a couple of hours later, my tip shot around and I was into the barbel! After safely netting and photographing the fish, it was weighed at 13lbs 4ozs before being returned to fight another day!”

Pallatrax rod Luke Ayling has had even more success on his local River Kennet; his first trip of 2012 resulted in a cracking barbel of 12lbs 10ozs which fell to Pallatrax Crustacean Cocktail baits. Luke told us; “I arrived at the Kennet at around 7pm and settled into a likely swim, my Pallatrax Crustacean Cocktail hook bait was wrapped in matching paste and cast out into midstream. I anchored everything with a Pallatrax Stonze weight and only had to wait an hour before the ‘tip flew around resulting in my first barbel of the year! At 12lbs 10ozs, I was a very happy angler!”

Luke has also been amongst the big chub. “I arrived at the River Kennet at around 3pm, and dropped my kit into a favourite swim of mine. The river was still rising and the water temperature was constant at about 47f with lots of debris coming down which are conditions I consider perfect for barbel..
After a short walk to see if I could spot any other likely holding areas, I returned to my original swim and cast out my Pallatrax Crustacean Cocktail stick hook bait which I wrapped in matching paste. I use this bait in conjunction with my normal smelly winter PVA stick attached (pellets crushed sticks, method mix and loads of krill and shrimp liquid). ...after a long wait...and another 4 casts because of all the debris coming through the swim, the tip slowly pulled round and I was into a fish I knew wasn’t a barbel. At the net, it became obvious it was a cracking chub which was weighed at exactly 7lbs before being photographed and safely returned. It was a cracking start to my chub catching campaign in 2012!”
Luke told us that Pallatrax baits are a favourite, both of his and the Kennet monsters!
