Sharpy does it again with two huge Dovecote bream

On Sunday the 27th March 2011, UKMA team member Carl Sharp called the office with some exciting news. Whilst fishing for carp on the superb Dovecote lakes near Milton Keynes the midlands based rod landed a superb 14lbs 2oz specimen and then went on to catch a new personal best bream in the shape of a stunning 17lbs 2oz monster. After a few well chosen comments from myself that included “spawnie git”, Carl proceeded to give me the details on this impressive double capture, here’s what he had to say about the methods and tactics that have done the biz for him yet again.

I took both bream from a spot that was around 110 yards out and presented my bait in a silt gulley and had decided to use Nash Baits 20mm Scopex Squid with Robin Red as my hook bait and fed 10 freebies and 1/2lb of mixed pellets over the top. The rig I used incorporated 8 inches of 20lb Kryston Jackal in the black silt colour, connected a size 8 Nash Fang Twister with a knotless knot, with a 2mm piece of silicon tubing holding the hair directly below the hook point. This was attached to a diffusion camo Nash Leaders and lead clip system with a 4oz Nash distance lead”.

Foot Note

Being a lover of big bream myself with a PB of 12lbs 2oz, Carl was kind enough to inform me that the big one was a recapture, He went on to explain that he had landed the same fish at a previous PB of 15lb 15oz back in April 2010, just to rub the salt in that little bit more (Thanks mate) but all that aside well done. Watch this space as we follow Carl’s year on his Video blog “The Dovecote Chronicles”.
