Denaim Dropper Floats

Denaim are not a name that most anglers will be aware of, but the company have come up with a design of floats that allows precise feeding of bait into the area that the angler is fishing.

from left to right: 2SSG Waggler, 3SSG Waggler, Rod, PoleThe principle behind the Denaim Dropper Floats is to enable any angler to accurately place feed where they have cast to without the need for a catapult, bait dropper or catapult. A lot of anglers may think that they do not need a product like this, but the benefits are there to be gained from being able to introduce exactly the right amount of bait around the hookbait without having to worry about side winds or range limits of a catapult. Anglers that have problems with their dexterity or suffer from problems in the cold with their hands and fingers will find this product the answer to their problems as they do not need to worry about the grip that they have on a catapult handle.

The way the Dropper Floats work is basic physics. Depending on which model is used, either the main bait holding compartment or the base plate encapsulates the loose bait in the float and during the cast, the air pressure holds both sections closed together until the float lands in the water. Once the float lands in the water, the base plate drops or the main compartment lifts, depositing the bait directly beneath the float.

Any loose bait can be used with the Denaim Dropper Floats and the loading of the bait bears no difference in shotting requirements due to the float depositing the bait as soon as the floats hits the water. This means that pellets, maggots, casters, corn, loose groundbait, liquidised bread, etc, can all be used in the Dropper floats with no problems at all.

The Dropper floats are available in 3 styles; Pole, Waggler and Rod. The Pole version is designed to be setup using top and bottom attachment with the line running completely through the hollow bristle and exiting out of the base of the float. The float can be stopped on the line by use of a sliding float stop placed above and below the float. The main bait compartment rises to deposit the bait once the float is lowered in to the required area. The Pole float takes a shot capacity of 0.4g and is suitable for use with either bulk shot or ollivette pattern as well as strung out shotting patterns for a slower drop of the hookbait through the water.

The Waggler and Rod versions are designed to be fished bottom end only and the lower disc drops on settling in the water to allow the release of the bait. The Rod version takes a shotting capacity of 0.6g, where as the Waggler version is available in two capacity's of 2SSG or 3SSG. The Rod version is stubbier compared to the longer body of the Waggler . The Rod version of the Dropper float has a fine bristle, where the Waggler version has a much thicker bristle that is bouyant enough to be used on moving water or lakes that are affected by tow where the bait is fished overdepth to hold it still.

The diameter of the bait compartment is the same on all three patterns being 20mm and has 4 holes situated in the top of the main compartment to allow all bait to be deposited cleanly.

All three patterns have a RRP of £3.99 each and can be purchased direct from Denaim or from one of their stockists.

Final Thoughts

The Denaim Dropper floats do exactly what they have been designed to do without any hassles. Loading the float with a heavier bait will give additional weight to cast longer so that you could fish two different lines using the same rod but different baits with a single setup. We found that baits drop out of the compartment without ay problems even if the compartment is damp directly after a retrieve. Dependant on version used, the base plate drops freely every time and in the case of the Pole version, the main compartment lifts smoothly.

Whilst these floats may not be to everyones taste or requirements, we can see the benefits in having them in our armoury especially on those bitterly cold days where the last thing you want is a catapult pouch rapping your knuckles or if the wind makes accurate loose feeding difficult.
