The Drennan Grip Mesh Feeder is to many anglers the forgotten relative of the immensely popular wire cage feeder. For some unknown reason, the majority of anglers have forgotten the basic skills of feeder fishing and use basically one feeder for all their feeder work. This is OK in most situations but when you are using a feed which contains larger particles or when you need to get your bait out at longer distances and down to the bottom in deeper or moving water the Grip Mesh Feeder is the only real option to consider.

The Grip Mesh Feeder is a technically advanced version of the original Hair Curler Feeders used back in the seventies. The main chamber is produced using a plastic square meshed material which is secured to the flat lead weight by the use of four lead strips which are folded over inside the mesh chamber to securely hold the feeder together and create the cylindrical shape. The internal wall of the feeder has various sized plastic spikes which are designed to hold your bait in the feeder securely during casting and insuring a slower release allowing you bait to reach the bottom in deeper waters.

The feeder is attached to your reel by the tried and tested twisted Power gum and swivel system used on the majority of the Drennan open end feeders. This not only acts as a reliable connection but it also acts as superb shock absorption system, coping with the high impact and stresses that the connection is put under whilst casting extreme distances. The connection swivel is also very capable of handling these high impact forces with ease and makes the changing of your feeder during any session a very simply job when using a feeder boom or American Snap Swivel.

With more thought going into rig concealment over the past decade, the original navy blue colour of the Grip Mesh Feeder was losing favour with many anglers so Drennan then released a natural or gravel brown colour which was perfect for the commercial fisheries and general match situations. However with the Drennan Grip Mesh Feeder now becoming an essential part of the specialist angler’s artillery, Drennan took on board their needs by releasing a camouflaged version which works superbly when used in clear water situations or when targeting heavily pressured fish.

Final Thoughts

The Drennan Grip Mesh Feeder is one feeder you should always have in your tackle box, if you take your feeder fishing seriously. For long distance or deep water situations when you need a feeder to hold your bait together during the cast and only release the bait were you want it, then you will struggle to find a feeder better suited for the job. They have been around for many years now and nobody has designed a feeder that performs as well as or is as reliable, yet another Drennan Classic that will still be around in another 10 years time.
