Nash Tackle Brolly Dome & Overwrap

UKMA recently received Nash Tackles Brolly Dome and Overwrap to have a play around with, so over a six week period we took this entry level shelter and Overwrap out on the bank to see how well it would perform in the varied and unsettled weather systems that autumn has to offer.

The Brolly Dome

Approximate Dimensions:  210cm (D) X 270cm (W)
Approximate Overall Weight: 7.8kgs
RRP - £169.99

The idea for the Brolly Dome has come about when Nash Tackles development team realised they needed a shelter in there range to cater for the trend of anglers now moving away from the conventional umbrella style shelter and opting for shelters that are more stable and offer greater protection. The Brolly-Dome is based on a pram hood system that incorporates the standard pre-formed aluminium poles making it both very light and quick to erect. The main skin is manufactured using a 4oz nylon PU waterproof material which is incredibly waterproof and even after the heaviest shower it will fully dry out in just less than half an hour (we recorded the drying times after a heavy soaking to dry in 14 °C and a moderate southerly wind)

The Nash Brolly Dome is also supplied with a zip on-zip off heavy-duty mosquito mesh front infill panel which is a life saver if like me you spend most of the summer months on the bank looking like John Merrick, after the lakes resident mosquitoes have feasted on your face all night, then this infill is essential to your comfort and looks in hot weather. Included in the package you also get a lightweight ground sheet that is removable, giving you the option to use it or leave it at home and reduce your total weight whilst in transit. To finish the package of you also get a set of Nash Tackle heavy-duty T pegs and the complete package is supplied to the angler in a practical draw cord carry bag.

The Nash Brolly Dome On The Bank

The first time I got the Nash Brolly Dome out on the bank, the first thing that caught my attention was how quick I was able to put it up. The Pre-formed poles are of a three piece construction making alignment and assembly a very easy affair. Once the frame support bars were fitted simply attach the ground sheet via the easy to locate Velcro attachments and once fitted simply peg out, even for me this only took a minute and a half to complete the job. The Brolly Domes Mosquito Mesh front panel can be used in numerous configurations, you can have the zipped door rolled up with the side panels down, clip up a side panels and have the shelter totally open during the day or totally removed for optimum air flow.

To make the shelter even cooler on those stick summer days Nash have fitted a rear vent that is easily accessed by unzipping the cover panel situated at the rear of the Brolly Dome. Now here is bit of advice, when fishing on an autumnal night when you expect a heavy mist or even a dense fog to form in the morning, NEVER leave the rear vent open all night or you will suffer the same damp awakening I experienced after making this mistake (absolutely everything was covered in moisture) After drying everything out, I slept with the vent securely closed on the second night and this eliminated the majority of the condensation problem.

I have to admit that I was pleased with the Brolly Domes over all strength, rigidity and general performance. It offers the angler an incredible amount of internal space considering it is only a One Man shelter, I would personally describe it as a 1.5 man shelter, it is that big.  I have now used it with a standard Indulgence and a Wideboy bed chairs and it easy accommodates both with plenty of room to spare. I have store my entire luggage including the rod holdall at the back of the shelter behind the bed and still have found ample space for a bivvy table and bait buckets inside at the front of the Brolly dome. All in all it is a great all round short session, mild weather shelter but now to fit the Overwrap and see how it likes some real fishing weather.

The Nash Brolly Dome Overwrap

RRP - £64.99

The addition of an Overwrap to the majority of single skinned shelters is a sure fire way to preventing and eliminating condensation when you have to fishing in the extremes of winter, and this one is no exception. The Brolly Dome Overwrap is manufactured using the same 4oz nylon PU waterproof material and is fitted with the same fixtures and fittings as the main Dome. The Brolly Dome Overwrap is very simple to fit, simply align the front door on the Overwrap with the same on the dome and place over the Dome. Then peg out all the way round and this should create a tight skin that is approximately 40mm clear of the internal shelter all the way around.

Once fitted the Overwrap turns the Nash Brolly Dome into a rigid all weather shelter that is well and truly up for the job. UKMA took the Brolly Dome to Manor Farm Fishery on what turned out to be the wettest 3 nights out on the bank I had seen or experienced in months, basically if it wasn’t lashing it down it was drizzling. This was the perfect weather for our final tests and gave me the perfect opportunity to see if the shelter could cope with some real crappy conditions. UKMA have found that the Nash Brolly Dome and Overwrap was able to keep me and all my kit totally dry, warm and fully protected from all elements for the duration of the 72 hours I was lakeside.

Final Thoughts

The addition of the winter skin gave me the reassurance that the Nash Brolly dome was a shelter that I would have no problems using all year round. During the warmer months it is perfectly suited to short or long sessions but if you add the Overwrap you have a shelter that will cope with the very worst conditions you may experience whilst out in the elements.. So if your misses is pulling in the strings and you want an all-rounder for all situations and still want a wife, then give this one a go, it’s solid, versatile, reliable and superb value for money.
