H-Gun 2 Leg Bedchair

RRP: £83.99

With anglers always looking for value for money as well as functionality, Nash have seen this and the H-Gun (previously Hooligun) brand has been part of their portfolio for a number of years now. The H-Gun range as been taken onboard by anglers at all levels of angling (including several consultants for Nash that swear by the H-Gun range when they have the choice of anything in the ranges!) which speaks testament to how well made, functional and cost effective the products are.

With this in mind, UKMA asked Nash if we could put some of the range through its paces to see how it stood up to the more expensive counterparts, and the first item from the range we looked at was the H-Gun 2 Leg Bedchair.

A comfortable bedchair is part and parcel of todays anglers requirements, and when you look at the cost of the average bedchair, the angler doesn't always want to spend almost as much on a fishing bedchair as they did on their main bed at home. Nash saw a niche in the market and designed the H-Gun bedchairs to fit into this demographic.

The H-Gun 2 Leg Bedchair has all the features that you would expect from a good bedchair and in the majority of these features, the quality is in excess of the bedchairs from any manufacturer that was available before Nash launched the Indulgence range! The mattress is well padded with a padded flap that runs fully around the top of the frame meaning that if you do happen to lean on the edge of the bedchair, the metal frame will not dig in any where near as much as it may do if left bare.

The dimensions of the H-Gun 2 Leg Bedchair are adequate for all but the larger anglers with the product being 192cm in length and 72cm in width. The height of the bedchair is lower than some fo the other bedchairs on the market, which for the taller angler or those with back problems, may struggle to get up out of quickly for a take, but this can be partially alleviated by fully extending the four legs. For the angler that fishes under a low brolly system, this bedchair will tick all the boxes that they want. The weight of the bedchair is stated at 9kg which may sound heavy to some people, but it feels almost weightless when being carried.

As per usual, Nash have spared no expense with the features and the handwheels are free moving and during the testing we never had them jam once. When tighened up, the head end of the bedchair is rigid and showed no signs of movement when being laid upon. The legs are adjustable using a press lever and spring mechanism which allows for millimetre precision adjustment to ensure that the product is level on all but the steepest of slopes. The legs are also grooved to stop any twist which is a nice touch. Each leg terminates in a mudfoot which is not as large as what is found on the Indulgence range, but is more than adequate to stop any damage to a groundsheet or sinking too far into soft ground. The mudfeet swivel through 180 degrees on a single axis which maintain a high level of weight distribution across the feet.

The piece de resistance of the H-Gun bedchair has to be the pillow. This is a non-removable pillow of what feel liks high density foam and is by far the most comfortable pillow of ANY bedchair that I have used over the past 2 decades! Anybody that does not find this pillow comfortable will not be comfortable on any bedchair. Next to the pillow Nash have fitted a mesh pocket that will house most mobile phones on the market securely.

Final Thoughts

As someone that does suffer with back problems, I thought that I would not be able to go through a session on the H-Gun bedchair as I am used to the Indulgence range, but I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable it was. It is not in the same comfort range as the Indulgence, but the H-Gun is not in the same price range and Nash would be doing themselves out of sales by making the H-Gun as comfortable as their flagship bedchair. I am not the largest of anglers by a long shot, and I have to be honest that I felt I was a little too big for the H-Gun bedchair with my 6' height and 13 stone frame. As the bedchair is of a 2 leg construction there is nothing at either end to stop the bedchair from tipping and it took me several hours to embed this into my mind when getting off of the bedchair. For the smaller framed or junior angler, the H-Gun would be perfect. Both of the sleeping bags that I own fitted the H-Gun bedchair although the older Nash Frostbite 5 sleeping bag fitted better than my newer Frostbite All-Season (as the All-Season is designed to fit the wider Indulgence range). Even with the extra material of the All-Season, it was still comfortable and at no point did I feel that I was going to roll off the bedchair.

In a nutshell, for the money, their is nothing that I have seen which comes close to the H-Gun bedchair for features or comfort. The H-Gun bedchair prior to the Indulgence range, would have had anglers expecting to pay well over double the price for a bedchair of the same quality. Take a look at the H-Gun, if you are looking at a new bedchair, and I am sure that you will not be disappointed. For those that prefer a 3 leg bedchair, there is a 3 leg version in the H-Gun range which we hope to look at very soon.
