Nash Tackle TT Lead RangeRRP: £1.39 - £2.15 Each (Size & Shape Dependant)
Nash Tackle are no newcomers to the lead market and over the years have come up with some very innovative and handy designs but anglers being anglers did not take to them in the way that they did with other brands. Rather than just sit back, Kevin Nash and the team at Nash Tackle have continued to rise above and carry on developing leads, which has now culmanated in the 2011 range of TT Leads. Rather than simply bring out the same leads as every other manufacturer brings to the table, Kevin has looked at the existing leads on the market and tweaked them to how he and his team of consultants feel they should be. In the TT Lead Range there are 7 styles. In this review we will be looking at the 5 which will find the most favour with most anglers. All of the TT Leads are finished in a textured coating which allow flavour to be absorbed as well as allowing for clay, mud or even paste or groundbait to be moulded around the lead to give further camouflage or attraction. For 2011, Nash Tackle have introduced a new colouration with Gravel/Clay being added to the existing Weed/Silt colouration.
Dumpy Pear LeadThe Dumpy Pear Lead is probably one of the widely used style of leads that anglers will first reach for when faced with all but the most extreme distance work. The TT Dumpy Pear has the weight of the lead concentrated towards the base giving a better bolt effect than some other leads which have the weight higher up or spread out more. The concentration of the weight towards the base means that these leads should cast further than some of the others available. Nash have also looked at the swivel and loop on the leads and have made the loop smaller and incorporated a large eyed swivel which allows for easier ejection if used with a safety bolt bead arrangement. The Dumpy Pear Leads are available in sizes; 1.25oz (£1.39), 1.5oz (£1.39), 2oz (£1.39), 2.5oz (£1.39), 3oz (£1.39)and 4oz (£1.45).
Dumpy Square Pear LeadAs the name suggests, the Dumpy Square Pear is similar to the Dumpy Pear Lead but instead of being a round profile, has four flat sides. The flattened sides allow for superb hooking potential and are a firm favourite of ours when using a Chod or Helicoptor rig as the lead stays put instead of moving when the rig is picked up - even in the smallest sizes. The Dumpy Square Pear is also very effective on slow moving waters such as canals or middle to lower reaches of rivers as the flattened sides will resist rolling in any flow or boat traffic. The Dumpy Square Pear Leads are available in sizes; 1.5oz (£1.39), 2oz (£1.39), 2.5oz (£1.39), 3oz (£1.39), 3.5oz (£1.39)and 4oz (£1.45).
Flat Pear LeadThe Flat Pear Lead is the classic shape which anglers that want the most effective of bolt rigs or a lead that will not move in flowing water will turn to before anything else. With two large flat sides rather than the 4 symettrical sides of the Dumpy Square Pear, when the lead is settled on the deck it will take more force to move it. The lower profile in the water allows for a lesser weight to be used than in a traditional shaped lead, due to the dynamics of the shape. As with the other swivel leads in the range, the loop has been kept as small as possible and the large eyed swivel is fitted. The largest size Flat Pear Lead also makes for a superb long distance lead on waters where rigs and baits are boated out, as well as fast moving or flooded rivers. The Flat Pear Leads are available in sizes; 1.1oz (£1.39), 1.5oz (£1.39), 2oz (£1.39), 2.5oz (£1.39), 3oz (£1.39), 4oz (£1.45)and 6oz (£2.15).
Inline Flat Pear LeadThe Inline Flat Pear Lead is probably the best lead in the 5 which we are looking at for the most effective hooking potential. Becuase the line runs through the lead, with a swivel semi-fixed into the wider end, the full weight of the lead is felt instantly when the hooklink is tightened as there is no pivot point like with a swivel lead and safety bolt bead arrangement. The Inline Flat Pear has a stiff plstic insert running through the centre of the lead which makes the lead suitable for both traditional inline setups as well as the in vogue drop-off inline setups. The Inline Flat Pear LEads are also supplied with a Diffusion Camo tail rubber which is a nice touch. The Inline Flat Pear Leads are available in sizes; 1.1oz (£1.39), 1.5oz (£1.39), 2oz (£1.39), 2.5oz (£1.39), 3oz (£1.39), 4oz (£1.45)and 6oz (£2.15).
Long Ranger LeadThe Long Range lead has been designed to be the lead in the range for use at extreme casting distances. Rather than plump for the traditional Zipp style shape, Nash have gone for a more weight forward lead which should allow even the poorest of casters amongst us, the ability to gain an extra few yards on the cast with a simple overhead thump. Like the Dumpy Pear Lead, the Long Ranger has a low centre of gravity which gives a better bolt effect than leads with a more spread out weight distribution. For long range work, I feel that there is nothing better out there. The Long Ranger Leads are available in sizes; 2oz (£1.39), 2.5oz (£1.39), 3oz (£1.39), 3.5oz (£1.39), 4oz (£1.45) and 4.5oz (£1.49).
Final ThoughtsNash have once again come up with the goods. Each of the leads has been very well thought out and designed, and are individually tagged with a colour coded plastic tag (reusable) that states the weight of the lead. This should make it simple when buying in the shop as well as trying to find the right size in your lead pouch The coating used is also very resiliant and can be used with no issues over hard ground without worrying about the lead being cut into. The small loops on the swivel leads allow for very neat rotary rig arrangements where the angler has cut the swivel off and even if left totally standard, there is less chance of a soft hooklink material becoming tangled or snagged up around it. The Nash TT Leads now have a firm standing in my lead pouch and I will be putting them to good use hopefully for the foreseeable future. For a visual look at what the TT Leads can be used for, Nash Tackle's Alan Blair has created a short video which explains how he uses the leads, and this can be viewed below.
