Drennan Super Specialist Barbel Hooks Teflon Coated

The ever growing need for terminal tackle that can handle the most excessive of angling situations is now the norm in Barbel fishing. With new bait presentations and rig developments now being used as the norm, this has made the business end even more critical than ever before. The need for ultra tough terminal tackle that can handle the ferocity of the takes produced by the use of bolt rig presentations has lead to the development of ultra tough hooks that can cope with these high impact situations.
One of the most common patterns being used and talked about on the bank over the past 5 years that can well a truly cope with these ever demanding angling situations has to be the Drennan Super Specialist Barbel. These hooks have evolved by Drennan listening to anglers and taking on board their requirements and developing the essential feature required to produce a hook that is perfectly in tune with its angling environment.
Slightly in-turned eye (ideal for the Knotless Knot)

10 hooks per pack,
The Super Specialist Barbel design is nothing unusual, being based around the tried and tested standard hook pattern. The hooks shank is short to medium in length with a full half circular curve to the functional whisker barb and elongated point. The extra long point of the Drennan Super Specialist Barbel hook is immensely sharp giving instant penetration on the take, making it virtually impossible for the fish to eject the hook once in its mouth.
There are two noticeable features on the Super Specialist Barbel that make them stand out in the crowd. Firstly you have a Teflon coating that with its non-reflective dull charcoal grey colouration makes this blend in to its surroundings far better than a standard hook. By using Teflon coated hooks you will dramatically reducing sun glare, when fishing in shallow or exceptionally clear waters, especially in bright light conditions.
The second and most beneficial feature of the hook is the addition a slightly in-turned eye. This eye has been very neatly finished off eliminating any chance of your hook length breaking when the fish is in full charge from eye abrasion, which I have experienced from other brand of hook in these aggressive take situations. The in-turn angle also makes the hook ideal for use with the Knotless Knot, once tied and tensioned it makes the hook slightly kick out, which is exactly what you want the hook to.
I have now used these hooks for a number of years since they were introduced to market, and although they state “Barbel” on the packet, they are perfect for every specimen situation I can think off from big Roach through to the biggest of Carp. The hooks have not let me down in situations on heavily weeded lakes where hit & hold tactics for big Tench and Bream are required using braided mainlines, with no mis-shaping or opening out of hooks on fish nor lost any fish whilst using them! The points stay surgically sharp even after several fish. The Barbel pattern is virtually identical to the sister ESP Raptor Big-T hook, but the wire guage is slightly thicker making it a superb all round big fish pattern. This means that the angler only needs to buy one type of hook for the majority of their work, rather than carry around several similar patterns.
