Sonik Sports are making many friends in the carp and specialist angling fraternities with affordable, top quality products that perform superbly and pass the test of time. Since they hit the market place a few years back now, the UKMA team have reviewed the majority of the Northumberland based companies products and all have performed superbly. Last year they took their first steps into the reel market with the launch of the very impressive Tournos 8000 big pits that have already established themselves as a quality reel with the big fish anglers. To continue this trend, they have now released another reel specifically designed to cater to the needs of anglers who target specimen bream, tench, chub, perch, barbel, carp and pike, here’s the UKMA first look at the new for 2014 6000FS Black Reels.
These stylish matt black free spool reels are the ideal option for anglers who target specimen fish of all species. They feature 5+1 Stainless ball bearings, a high strength composite body and rotor, instant anti-reverse, S-Curve Oscillation for even line lay, a balanced rotor, Titanium coated Anti-Twist line roller, a robust thick aluminium black bail arm wire, a sensitive sealed drag and a well balanced twin handle. The 6000FS reels engine produces a gear ratio of 4.6:1, which enables this compact reel to recover 34 inches (87cm) of line per turn of the handle, making it ideal for cranking in heavy terminal tackle and most importantly big fish! The 6000FS BLACK REELS come supplied with two deep graphite spools (one fitted and one spare in the box) and they both have identical Line capacity of mm/m 0.30-460 0.35-340 0.40-260/lbs/yds 15-375 18-340 22-225, which is more than ample line storage for all angling situations.
With its 6+1 bearing system and balanced rotor, titanium coated line roller and double handle it is an incredibly smooth well designed reel. The front clutch released line without any complaint which is a something I have had issue with on other manufacturers reels. Front drags seem to be a thing of the norm these days and I have no issues with this. The free spool functioned extremely well and was more than adequate for all fishing situations where you may require it. Whilst testing the reels, they handled really well whilst playing large perch, bream and the odd upper double figure carp where they really did hold their own.
For the very fare price £49.99 you are getting a very stylish, extremely functional and versatile reel which also includes a spare spool!!! Our only criticism is that both spools are quite deep and it would be nice to have a shallower spool for using lighter lines and not having to backfill the spool (this does not affect the function of the reel, just a nice to have extra). The UKMA team highly recommend these reels to anyone looking for a reel that can cover all bases at an affordable price.
